Onkyo HT-RC270 7.2-Channel Network A/V Receiver Is Great!

I read many reviews on this product, and most were strong in suggesting that it was too complicated to setup. I am a "cheap" hobbyist in that I don't spend tons of money on this stuff, but certainly enjoy a good setup and keep my equipment somewhat current.

Pros:
OK, this thing is truly a great bargain. 6 HDMI inputs with one HDMI out, optic and coax digital audio inputs if you are not using HDMI devices and/or the audio signals over HDMI make this a flexible reciever. There are still several analog inputs and even a second zone feature (which I have not used) that offer some added functionality. There are extra speaker outputs (2 extra, I believe), but apparently only 7 speakers (plus 2 subwoofers) can be used for 7.1/7.2 THX/DTS EX sound. (currently I have only a 5.1 sound speaker setup)

Some other quick pros:
Great sound, flexibility in setup, quick speaker configuration/EQ with the included microphone, on screen TV display (only over HDMI) makes it a bit easier to read options compared to the front panel, not over powerful LEDs that cause it to "stand out" in an entertainment center, plenty of extra options and sound capabilities. Truly a great piece of hardware. Network capability is great, but be aware, it will not work with iTunes. Internet audio streams are easy to setup and work fairly well.

Cons:
There is a small delay when switching between input channels. I imagine that this would be reduced if I didn't want to upconvert everything to 1080P, but it still isn't bad. (see other thoughts below)

Other thoughts:
Flexibility and features can be translated to complicated as other reviews suggest. But don't be afraid of it. If you are new to home AV receivers, then it may seem overwhelming at first. But a few moments spent is well worth it. Quite honestly, I don't see how things can be made much more simple in a receiver. It isn't bad, and not any more complicated than other brands that I have worked with. So far, every HDMI device I have tried works great (XBOX 360, PS3, PC, HD camcorder, etc)

**NOTE I spent a few hours trying to figure out why I couldn't get HDMI working properly to my TV. After sleeping on it, I decided to try a different HDMI cable, and suddenly everything started working perfectly. For the record, I was using an HDMI cable that I received with my XBOX 360, apparently it is of older technology, or something. Because replacing that made all of the difference. It has worked flawlessly since.

How To Find Amazon Promotional Claim Codes To Get Discounts

Amazon is one of the biggest retailers on the web and prides itself on offering the widest range of products at the most competitive prices. Using Amazon promotional claim codes (or coupons, as they are popularly known) enables you to get additional discounts and benefits (such as free delivery, for example) on products that you purchase. Coupons enable you to achieve even greater savings on Amazon's already low prices and are made available for special promotions or provided to specific shopping groups.

How to Find Coupons

The first place to look for available coupons is on the Amazon site itself. Look for the Sales and Promotions section on the Amazon Category page to see which coupons are available for the products you are thinking of purchasing. Often coupons are provided for holiday seasons so its a good idea to check this are periodically. Another way to be eligible for coupons is to sign up for an Amazon credit card. Amazon credit card customers are sent coupons as rewards for using the card. You should also sign up for the Amazon newsletter which also contains promotional codes.

Aside from Amazon itself, there are many other companies that provide coupons from time to time. The best way to find these is by performing an internet search that combines the name of the product you wish to buy combined with 'Amazon coupon codes' or 'Amazon promotional claim codes'. A coupon will usually state what you need to purchase, a minimum purchase amount or other requirements for eligibility.

How to use Coupons

Using coupon codes is easy. All you need to do is make a note of the number on the coupons that you want to use and the product(s) to which they apply. When you are shopping at Amazon, add the appropriate products to your shopping cart; remember that sometimes you must purchase greater than a minimum dollar value to be eligible for the discount. Once you have chosen your products proceed to the checkout screen. Note that you must use the Manual checkout option in order to take advantage of coupons - don't use the 'Pay Phrase' or 'One-Click Ordering' options.

When you get to the final order page (where you complete payment and shipping details) look for a box beneath the text that asks whether you have any promotional claim codes on the page. This is where you enter the numbers of the coupons that you want to use. Enter each coupon number that you want to use and click the 'Apply' button each time. Note that although you may be allowed to enter more than one coupon code for a given purchase, you may not be able to use them all since some may not be combined with any other offer. The savings will be deducted from your order total.

If you're a frugal shopper on the lookout for the best possible prices on the internet, then Amazon's promotional claim codes are a great way to get the best discount possible on items purchased from Amazon.
